Where I come from

I acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of Australia. I pay my deepest respects to the Wurundjeri people of the Woi-wurrung Language Group, both past and present, that make up part of the Kulin Nation, as the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live and work. I also acknowledge the unceded Aboriginal lands of the Ngunnawal peoples in so called Canberra in which I was born.

Sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be, Aboriginal Land.

My ancestors came to the southeastern states of so-called Australia in the 1800s via the British colonial government's 'assisted migration' project, which invaded the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung, Ngunnawal, and Wiradjuri peoples. They were working-class families from the UK, mainly from Northwestern Europe, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Irish Republic. My ancestors' position as white settlers enabled them to acquire land and housing, education, employment, governmental and medical support, and many other resources (which I continue to benefit from today). I acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout so-called Australia and recognise the role my ancestors played in this history.

The colonial project continues to impact First Nations people throughout so-called Australia in the forms of explicitly racist governmental policy atrocities. These allow for over policing, over-incarceration, Deaths in Custody, Stolen Generations and life-threatening disparities in health, education, housing and employment. I'm committed to unlearning colonial ideologies as a lifelong process and practice that requires my active awareness. I provide monthly donations to First Nations grassroots organisation Dhadjowa Foundation, which provides strategic, coordinated and culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families whose loved ones have died in custody.

Who I am

Welcome to swan riot somatics, lovelies!!  I’m Jager Corvus (they/them).

I am a registered social work counsellor with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Home | AASW and practice in accordance with their Code of Ethics AASW Code of Ethics 2020. I'm also a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner™ with SE International. SE 101 - Somatic Experiencing® International

I've been 52 years around the sun and the moon's orbit. I'm a "MamaBeastThing" to a few critters and a bunch of witchy poo herbs and plants. I've been vegan for ethical reasons for over 30 years.  I enjoy collecting and reading tarot.  I love being in dense, mossy nature and bodies of water; it simmers my double Leo fire down to the bones. More than this, I know I am interconnected with nature and other animals, so all my human drag falls away.

Something I was surprised to discover was a love for weightlifting, which has taught me the power of movement and strength as a loving gesture to my body.

I'm a nerd for anything that speaks to relational and collective trauma, mycological science, generative or eco somatics, and more-than-human concepts. I flit between multiple books at once and buy more than I have time to read!

My lived experience as a queer, androgynous person (socialised as a cis woman up to my late 30s) finds me vividly aware of the insidious workings of sexism and misogyny. Over the last decade, I have lived as a non-binary, trans person who is femme-presenting. I see these aspects as just parts of me, as I'm many things.

The gritty aliveness of my Queerness helps me push for new worldings and support people in a deeply affirming way.

I started volunteering and working in the HIV Prevention and Support field in the late 90s. This was in response to a friend's transmission of HIV, whose fierce activism taught me about the politicisation of the virus, along with safer injecting practices. It further influenced me to pursue studies in community services and to work in orgs that centre social justice. There's an activist slogan I still love from those years; it reads: ‘HIV doesn't kill, discrimination does’, which speaks to me about the need to challenge & combat stigma. This ethos moves through me in the therapeutic space. So, self-work is political to me, rooted in social justice. I have a politicised understanding of trauma as both singular and collective.

I have 20+ years' experience working in community services, including HIV Prevention & Support, Youth Residential Support, Residential Detox Units, Primary and Secondary Needle exchanges, Disability Support Work (residential and social support), Prison Abolition, and LGBTIQA+ specialist services.

Most of these roles were in casework and advocacy, focused on increasing my clients' access to the services they needed. We often encountered multiple failures by systems to meet these needs. These failures were deeply traumatising for my clients. In response, I embarked on a 7-year transition into therapeutic practice as a master's-qualified social work counsellor and a fully certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner™ (Somatic Experiencing International).

I work part-time in a community health organisation for a program that specialises in supporting LGBTIQA+ people who use alcohol and other drugs - most clients are neurodivergent and living with social and relational trauma.

The rest of my time, I run my swan riot somatics practice online, which is open to people of all cultural identities, sexualities, genders, bodies, and disabilities.
